Edwin Zúniga Flores
About
Edwin Zúniga Flores is a pianist and composer based in Vienna. He began his musical training with his mother, pianist Lic. María Isabel Flores, and his father, conductor Dr. Edwin Zúñiga Reyes. At a young age he performed in Spain and the Americas, earning numerous prizes at national and international competitions as a soloist and accompanist.
In 2021 he presented his album Melodías Nicaragüenses in New York and Miami. In connection with this project he received the Distinguished Visitor Certificate from Miami-Dade County and the Rubén Darío Gold Medal from the Movimiento Mundial Dariano (MMD).
Since 2010 he has been a member of the Austrian Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers (AKM), where his compositions are registered. He studied piano with Prof. Blaženka Arnić and was a member of the Vienna Boys Choir, becoming the first student in Europe to complete the Matura in choral and orchestral conducting under Mag. Norbert Brandauer.
After completing his bachelor’s degree in composition with distinction under Univ.-Prof. Wolfgang Liebhart and Univ.-Prof. Dirk D’Ase, he continued his master’s studies in Composition at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK) with Univ.-Prof. Dr. Helga Arias. In parallel, he studies Piano at MDW (University of music and performing arts Vienna) with Univ.-Prof. Matthias Trachsel and Musicology at the University of Vienna. He also studied harmony with Univ.-Prof. Reinhard Amon, a leading reference for functional theory in the German-speaking world.
Recent highlights include the premiere of a fanfare at the Vienna Ball of Science 2024, the orchestration of a rediscovered waltz by Johann Traunwart performed at the opening of the 2025 ball of the Vienna University of Technology, and the premiere of his orchestral work Yaxché by the MUK Symphony Orchestra under Univ.-Prof. Andreas Stoehr. Another recent premiere is his percussion work with trumpet solo Cuando comenzó el tiempo, presented at the concert Mit Glanz und Gloria: Vom Paukenschlag zum Trompetenglanz.
